Carlisle Tourist Information Centre
Information Centre, next open Thu 1 Sep - Mon 31 Oct 2016
The recently restored Old Town Hall, where you will find the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), replaces the medieval Moot Hall. The central part dates from 1669 and the clock tower surmounts the 1717 extension. This was the meeting place for the city council until the opening of the Civic Centre in 1964 and also served as the courts.
If you are looking for ideas for a weekend break or just planning a day out, you can be sure of a friendly service and inspirational ideas from Carlisle's dedicated tourist information staff.
As well as providing a wide range of local maps, guides, leaflets and souvenirs, the helpful staff can book your accommodation, suggest places to visit, provide fishing permits, and give you plenty of information on walking and cycling routes in the area, among many other useful services.
Essential repair work was completed both internally and externally at the start of July 2013 to ensure this historic building remains in the best possible condition and to further improve the award winning service provided by the dedicated TIC staff. Further work was carried out at the Old Town Hall during the first half of 2015, providing a comprehensive upgrade to the TIC, including the installation of multi-media equipment, display fitments and desk installation with improved access from street level to the first floor.
Whether you are local to Carlisle, on business or on holiday, drop into the Tourist Information Centre for a wealth of ideas on what to see and do in the area.
