Profile
Carlisle is the capital of Cumbria and the main commercial centre of the county, attracting a vibrant mix of businesses from manufacturing and logistics to retail and tourism.
Strategically located near the Scottish border and with direct links to the West Coast Main Line and M6 motorway, the city has become an attractive base for national companies, including the Stobart Group, Pirelli Tyres and McVities Biscuits.
Yet behind this modern city is a rich heritage - a legacy of over 2000 years of occupation from Roman times to the present day. The line of Hadrian's Wall runs through the city, and an imposing castle and magnificent Cathedral are just two of its many historic treasures.
Supporting Carlisle's heritage and economy is a ‘green infrastructure' that was recently rated at 97% - one of the highest in the UK. And a recent survey (2012) conducted by property company, Rightmove, found Carlisle to be the happiest place to live in the UK.
With a wealth of environmental and historic assets on its doorstep, it is no wonder that Carlisle is recognised as one of the best places in the country to live, work and invest in.
