Carlisle is positioned in the strategically advantageous county of Cumbria, bordered by Scotland, Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and Lancashire. Carlisle provides excellent transport routes by road, rail and increasingly air.
To the east of Carlisle is the M6 motorway, the main arterial road between England and Scotland in the west. Newcastle in the northeast is less than an hour away by road. Rail connections are provided through Carlisle's Citadel Station, a key stop on the West Coast main line with daily services to London, the Midlands and Scotland.
Getting Around Carlisle

Carlisle and surrounding areas are well connected with a full range of bus services, running regularly to and from the city centre.
Located on the main West Coast train line, Carlisle is highly accessible with connections for the Settle - Carlisle line, the Tyne Valley line and the Cumbria Coast line. A regular Northern Rail service also runs from Carlisle heading west to Workington and then down the coast to Ravenglass and finishing at Barrow-in-Furness.
