Carlisle has good road and railway networks and is within easy reach of several major airports.

Those arriving by car or coach have a choice of three exits from the M6 motorway, allowing easy access into the city centre from the north, south or east. Major roads radiate out from the city in all directions connecting with the local towns of Brampton, Penrith, Wigton, Silloth and Longtown.

The city's elegant train station serves four railway routes - the West Coast main line between Scotland and England, the Tyne Valley cross-country route to Newcastle, the Cumbrian Coast Line to Barrow-in-Furness, and the famous Settle to Carlisle railway.

Local and national buses operate out of the city's central bus station, which is also a departure and arrival point for National Express coaches.

International airports can be found at Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester, with all having quick and direct links by road or rail to Carlisle. Carlisle also has its own airport, though this is exclusively for private and business use only.

Within the city, car parking is easy to find in convenient locations all around the city centre. Ample parking for coaches can be found next to Carlisle castle, whilst parking spaces for the disabled are conveniently close at hand in the city centre.
