Walking
With such a plethora of footpaths on its doorstep, it is not surprising that Carlisle is a mecca for walkers. The unspoilt countryside around the city is criss-crossed by a network of public rights of way just waiting to be explored. Hadrian's Wall National Trail comes right through the city, and the scenic Cumbria Way, Cumbria Coastal Way and Miller's Way all terminate here.
Closer to the city centre, Carlisle's outstanding parks, nature reserves and riverside walks are ideal for shorter strolls. And, if you need any encouragement to get started, why not visit Carlisle Tourist Information Centre for advice and leaflets on local walks in the area, including a number of ‘Walk Your Way to Health' routes.
