Most of Carlisle's car parks are within easy walking distance of the main shopping area and the ‘historic quarter'.
Carlisle City Council operates several pay-and-display car parks in and around the city, providing both short-stay and long-stay parking facilities. Normal charging hours are 8.30 am to 6.00 pm every day, including bank holidays. Privately-operated car parks can also be found. Free short-stay car parking (usually up to 2 hours) is available just outside the city centre, but you need to display a valid parking disc (available from Carlisle City Council or the Tourist Information Centre).
Parking spaces for disabled drivers or passengers are conveniently located in the city centre, subject to display of a valid Blue Badge parking permit.
