Markets

From a colourful award-winning indoor market to bustling farmers' and international markets in the heart of the city centre, there are plenty of bargains to be found in Carlisle.

Carlisle has one of the few remaining Victorian market halls in Britain, with a range of stalls under its roof selling everything from meat to vegetables, haberdashery to stationery. Centrally located, the market is a great place for browsing and spotting a bargain or two.

Farmers' markets are held regularly in the city centre. On selected days, the city centre is alive with the sights and smells of country fare from around the county. Everything from fresh meat and dairy products to jam-packed preserves and home-baked bread is on tempting display. The nearby market town of Brampton also holds a country market every week and a farmers' market once a month.

The occasional international market in the city centre adds a European flavour to the shopping experience, with stallholders offering specialist food and gifts from all over Europe.

Whether browsing the bargains in the Victorian Market Hall, sampling local food at a farmers' market, or shopping for something special, Carlisle's markets offer the best of local and international produce.
