Carlisle City Council
Carlisle City Council, based at the Civic Centre in Rickergate, is the administrative body for the city of Carlisle and its surrounding district. 52 elected councillors form the membership of the Council, representing 22 electoral wards.
Carlisle is also the main centre of administration for the county of Cumbria, and the County Council's offices can be found in the historic Citadel buildings near the railway station.
Granted its first royal charter by Henry II in 1158, Carlisle's coat of arms bears an image of the ancient city walls and the motto ‘Be Just and Fear Not'.
