The Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre has been run by local falconer Gary Swainson for the last thirty years and is one of the city’s top-rated visitor attractions. The centre specialises in a personal Cumbrian service and their walks include lots of local knowledge about the species and plant life around the area, as well as an insight into life in the countryside. They do family experiences which include a one-hour private session introducing you to the different species on site, as well handling three-hour sessions for the more enthusiastic bird of prey lovers. All their activities are delivered as exclusive sessions for your own private group and can be booked online on their website. Partially accessible – some raised areas but they can adapt services on lower ground for bigger wheelchairs. Gary also works with Amy’s Care – Cumbrians leading dementia friendly activity provider for older people. Their relaxed programme is particularly suited for visitors who require a slower and less chaotic service. Gary and his birds can sometimes be seen on the big screen, and his birds have been on television programmes like Deal or No Deal, Taggart, GMTV and The Secret of Roaninish. Buzz from the centre has also been the mascot at Carlisle United helping the team get the pigeons to roost in different places. Sandhills Carlisle CA5 6HB Visit website [email protected] 01228 576158
