Event date: 03/11/2018 - 24/02/2019 Export event
Event Location: Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery
A new exhibition of previously unseen work by celebrated Cumbrian artist Percy Kelly is to go on display.
After the success of the retrospective exhibition ‘Line of Beauty’, ‘A Legacy’ will be on show at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery in Carlisle from November 3 until February 24 2019.
The exhibition will mark the centenary of the artist’s birth and feature works recently gifted to Tullie House by benefactors. This will include sketches and final works not before on public display.
The work will be displayed in the room where Kelly would once have attended life drawing classes in his days as a student at Carlisle College of Art.
Kelly’s work is linear and graphic. His charcoals of the industrial coast of Cumbria drawn between 1958 – 1968 are particularly admired.
During his life he exhibited infrequently and out of necessity. It was only the posthumous cataloguing of his scattered art that has revealed its true extent.
‘Line of Beauty’ was widely acclaimed and won Best Arts Initiative at the Carlisle Living Awards.
