Benjamin Britten - Violin Concerto No. 1
Antonín Dvořák - Symphony No. 8
Who's playing it:
Nil Venditti - conductor
Maria Włoszczowska - violin
Royal Northern Sinfonia
One of the great things about Antonín Dvořák’s music is how straightforward it is. He’s never trying to be clever, he just lays out great tunes for all to enjoy – and his Symphony No. 8, full of bright, optimistic melodies, is a classic example. Britten’s Violin Concerto is a more serious counterpart, a reflection on war. The piece is one big musical sweep from the first moment to the last, everything building tension until the finale.
