Afternoon Recital: Three (3 singers and accompanist Isabella Briggs)

Carlisle Cathedral's free afternoon recitals continue, as they welcome Three to the Fratry Hall

While entry to our concerts is complimentary, we encourage contributions during the collection at the end of each performance to support both the talented artists and the Cathedral. Your generosity will help us continue to bring such events to the community. We look forward to seeing you there!

Samantha Green: Samantha has been singing since school days in church choirs and choral societies. She gained concert soloist opportunities in North London and also on tour to Italy, France and Turkey and, studying singing with Norman Welsby, explored her love of opera. Principal Soprano roles include Lucy in Menotti’s “The Telephone” and Dorabella in Mozart’s “Cosi fan Tutti”, although she considers her operatic highlight to be the role of Nedda in Leoncavallo’s “I Pagliacci” where she got to dramatically ‘die’ on stage! Samantha now sings with local choirs and groups around Cumbria including Solway Singers and Penrith Singers.

Wendy Long: Wendy Long studied as a junior exhibitioner at the Royal Academy of Music, playing second lead in the symphony orchestra and singing in the senior choir, as well as winning second place in the Lila Collier Violin Prize. She has performed in numerous musical theatre productions, including principal roles in several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and contemporary musicals. She holds a DipLCM performance diploma, and is working towards her LTCL performance qualification. She also sings as a member of Penrith Singers and Amici.

Sarah Lewis-Briggs: Sarah studied Music with English at Nottingham University, but after graduating qualified, and still works, as a Chartered Surveyor. Music and singing have remained an important part of her life, and she currently sings with, and writes programme notes for, Solway Singers and Penrith Singers, as well as organising her own vocal ensemble, Amici. She is an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music.

Isabella Briggs has recently concluded her studies at Junior RNCM, where she performed in concerts as a soloist, member of a piano quintet and as a choir member. She is now studying at the University of Manchester, with piano as her first study, remaining under Polish teacher Marta Karbownicka, after achieving a distinction in her LTCL diploma this summer. She has also taken lessons from great English pianists including Martin Roscoe and Kathryn Stott when attending the 2023 Chethams International Piano Summer School, and organ lessons at Carlisle Cathedral with Edward Taylor, and with Simon Mercer in Manchester.

Concert starts at 2pm.
