On Sunday 22 February, hop on a coach from Carlisle down to Threlkeld and Keswick in The Lake District. From there, you have the choice of joining one of three walks, lead by one of our experienced walk leaders.

Please contact Pete Rutland 07534358550 or email rutlandpeter2013@yahoo.co.uk if you wish to come along or require more details.

Walk A – Blencathra (Grade 1, 9 miles), lead by Pete Rutland
We will get dropped off by the coach as near to Scales as possible. We head up the road that gives us access to the Mousthwaite Comb path. From there it's a straightforward walk to the summit over Scales Fell to Hallsfell Top at 868m. It's a long steady way down over Blease Fell. At some point we will have lunch on the ridge. We drop down through the Blencathra Centre, Derwent Folds and Brundholme to the Keswick Railway Walk. A nice flat walk back into Keswick for after walk tea and cake. This walk is on good paths but there are some steep climbs up and a steep section off from Blease Fell. There will be some great views if the weather allows. At a little over 9 miles, it's a good walk. We will not be considering Sharp Edge, as I would usually do, so this walk is suitable for more members, if you feel fit enough for the challenge.

Walk B – Walla Crag (Grade 3, 7 miles), lead by Christine Milton
The coach drops us off in Keswick, where we walk through the town to join up with the path through Spring Wood. We start to ascend through the woodland beside the beautiful beck before emerging to views towards Derwent Water and the hills beyond. The path steepens a little until reaching the fabulous summit of Walla Crag with its wonderful viewpoint over the lake. We will have a while to absorb the scenery before taking the easy undulating path to Ashness Bridge. Coffee/lunch taken at either of these amazing places. We next drop down to the lakeside where, depending on the water level, can walk beside the lake or the pavement slightly above, visiting the Centenary Stone and Friars Crag on the way back to Keswick, in time for refreshments. One of my favourite walks with fabulous views for not a great amount of effort. Good paths most of the way, perhaps a small amount of mud but nothing technically difficult.

Walk C – Threlkeld Cricket Club to Theatre on the Lake (Grade 4, 6 miles), lead by Sharron Murray
The coach will drop us off at Threlkeld Cricket Club, from where we will cross the road into the village and walk through it to pick up the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail. This is a well-maintained tarmac path going slightly downhill all the way to Keswick. Once in Keswick we will walk through Fitz Park to the footbridge and thence into town. From there we will take Borrowdale Road to the turning to Cockshot Wood, which we will walk around to end at the theatre on the lake.
