The Cumbrian Chamber Choir present their next concert, Dreaming The Heavens. Choral music inspired by the imagination from Hildegard of Bingen to the present day, including Britten's Hymn to St Cecilia. Directed by Andy McTaggart.
Formed in 1997 as a small choir with a repertoire ranging from Plainsong to Poulenc, Monteverdi to MacMillan, The Wordsworth Singers have won critical acclaim for inspiring performances of largely unaccompanied works.
The choir’s singing members come from all over Cumbria and from the south of Scotland, coming together several times a year to perform concerts throughout Cumbria and beyond, following a two week rehearsal period. They have sung at the Lake District Summer Music Festival and on the Edinburgh Fringe. They have also been invited to perform at weddings, dinners and other events, singing music from the 14th to 21st centuries. They have given first performances and recorded four CDs.
In 2015 The Wordsworth Singers were honoured to receive the title “Choir of the Year” at the first Cumbria Life Culture Awards.
Tickets for Dreaming The Heavens are £14 in advance or £15 on the door. Under 18s and students are free.
Advance tickets are available from Suziebou (The Square, Dalston), choir members, or via The Wordsworth Singers website.
Event starts at 4pm.
