Franz Joseph Haydn certainly liked a challenge. As if writing over 100 symphonies wasn’t enough, he also attempted to put the Creation of the world into music. But he succeeded in spades. The detail, the immersion, and the epic scope of it is just extraordinary. If today we can marvel at how you can almost literally feel the heat of the sun evoked in music, you can only imagine how mind-blowing it was for audiences back in 1798.

The Sands Centre is situated next to Hardwicke Circus, a 10-minute walk from the city centre. If travelling by car the centre is well signposted from the M6 - if travelling south use junction 44 or travelling north use junction 43 (CA1 1JE). The railway and bus stations are only a short distance away.
